Local NStat Winning Project:

Safety and Justice | Reduce Gun Violence

The Saint Nicholas community voted to invest $30,000 in projects designed to increase community-based support to prevent incidents of gun violence. In 2022, Saint Nicholas residents will partner with local organizations and city agencies to design and implement safety interventions, including:

  • Training on peacemaking practices and restorative justice,
  • Intergenerational healing events, and
  • Providing access to therapeutic services.

All Project Proposals

Project 1: Physical Space | Love Where You Live Campaign*

If selected, this project will seek to improve environmental conditions of common spaces through stewardship led by building and floor representatives, community clean-up & planting days, training, signage and supplies, advocacy through neighbor-to-neighbor meetings, and projects that highlight unique community features and promote pride.

Project 2: Economic Stability | Education & Job Training Programs

This project aims to connect education and job training to long-term, stable careers through on-site college fairs, youth mentorship, career coaching, subsidized apprenticeship programs, and events offering funding opportunities for education & entrepreneurial start-ups.

Project 3: Health and Well-being | Holistic Health Training

This project seeks to train and support local resident leaders and community based organizations in providing culturally competent wellness & healing services like mental health first aid training that centers racial equity and coping skills, access to resource guides, and small group “safe place” meetings to promote trust, sharing, and healing.

Project 5: Youth Development | Youth Designed Projects

This project will co-create programming by youth for youth. Possibilities may include: arts & entrepreneurship programs; mentorships that address trauma, healing circles, or peer-to-peer support groups; life skills training from financial management to healthy relationships; and expanded networks to help youth access a wider range of opportunities.
