Physical Space | Improvements to Play + Green Spaces

The Polo Grounds community voted to invest $30,000 in projects designed to renovate play & green spaces. In 2022, Polo Grounds residents will partner with local organizations and city agencies to co-design upgrades to the physical spaces with projects that include:

  • Vibrant murals that reflect the neighborhood,
  • New park benches,
  • Gardens,
  • Signage,
  • Skate ramps, and
  • Fitness equipment. 

All Project Proposals

Project 2: Economic Stability | Entrepreneurship Programs for Residents

This project will connect residents interested in launching their businesses with a range of resources, including youth mentorship opportunities for entrepreneurship; business coaching for all ages that offers guidance on financial management and starting an LLC; and targeted events on funding opportunities for entrepreneurship and start-ups.

Project 3: Health and Well-being | More Healthy Food

This project focuses on increasing access to fresh, nutritious, and affordable food through various strategies, including food justice education and awareness campaigns to improve the quality of food in local markets, cooking demos, pop-up juice bars, and community dinners.

Project 4: Safety and Justice | Reduce Gun Violence

This project aims to increase community-based support in responding to and preventing gun violence with mini-grants. The grants will aid the following community-led strategies: training on peacemaking practices and restorative justice, intergenerational healing events, and increased access to therapeutic services.

Project 5: Youth Development | Youth Designed Projects

This project will co-create programming by youth for youth. There will be a range of opportunities, including arts and entrepreneurship programs; mentorship options to address trauma and provide healing circles, or peer-to-peer support groups; life skills training on financial management and healthy relationships; and expanded networks for youth to access a wider range of resources.
