Welcome to Queensbridge Chooses!

Local NStat Winning Project:

Safety and Justice | Community/Police Relations

The Queensbridge Houses community voted to invest $30,000 in projects designed to improve interactions between law enforcement and community members. In 2022, Queensbridge residents will partner with local organizations and city agencies to design and implement safety interventions, including:

  • Intergenerational healing events that build relationships between young people and older adults, and
  • Listening tours that invite police to learn about local public safety priorities from community leaders.

All Project Proposals

Project 1: Physical Space | Improve Unsafe Conditions

This project aims to make rapid improvements to unsafe conditions. The team will co-design quick improvements to construction areas, conduct safety walkthroughs, and execute policy campaigns that address chronic repair backlogs, such as lack of gas, and more.

Project 2: Economic Stability | Education & Job Training Programs

This project aims to connect community members with education and job training opportunities that foster long-term, stable careers. Resources include on-site college fairs, youth mentorship, career coaching, subsidized apprenticeship programs, and access to funding opportunities for education programs and entrepreneurial start-ups.

Project 3: Health and Well-being | De-stigmatize Mental Health

This project aims to de-stigmatize mental health through small-group community discussions and storytelling that highlights participants’ lived experiences. The NStat team will organize forums and training opportunities that encourage. Participants will also design and launch a multi-media communications campaign.

Project 5: Youth Development | Youth Designed Projects

This project will co-create programming by youth for youth. There will be a range of opportunities, including arts and entrepreneurship programs; mentorship options to address trauma and provide healing circles, or peer-to-peer support groups; life skills training on financial management and healthy relationships; and expanded networks for youth to access a wider range of resources.
