Finding His Footing with Next Steps

Patterson Houses

Terrance Rosenthal, a Patterson resident, joined the Department of Probation’s (DOP) Next Steps program with the Osborne Association. Terrance received support in earning his certificate as a Nursing Assistant and with completing college applications. As a Next Steps participant, Terrance began working full-time with Fresh Direct, earning money to help support his college aspirations.

“Terrance was running with the wrong crowd. He joined Next Steps with his friends, left, and came back. When he came back he completed the program and now serves as a role model to his peers.”—Arabia Veggacado, Next Steps Program Coordinator

Terrance successfully completed his first semester at Virginia Union University and is currently completing his second semester. Next Steps offers young people like Terrance one-on-one and group mentoring and cognitive behavioral therapy designed to help young adults make the attitudinal and behavioral changes necessary to avoid criminal activity and reengage with education, work, and community.
